I'm Chris Lucas, I am a CAD designer based in the Netherlands. Using the latest technology, I help to restore and keep classic cars on the road. In my spare time I create 3D models of discontinued car parts that will be, for example, injection molded or 3D printed.
During my time at Holbox BV, next to my main activities, I focused on optimizing the Design Studio's workflow by mastering the scarcely documented scripting language of ArtiosCAD, the company's CAD software. I developed over 20 custom automation scripts, streamlining various processes and significantly improving efficiency. These included creating new tools, such as a function that automatically saves files with correct file names and locations, and automates the input of key values, reducing manual entry. Overall, my work saved the studio hundreds of hours, boosting productivity and reducing errors.
Together with the head of the studio, we also completely restructured the production preparation process, saving additional time and positioning the company for larger-scale future automation.
Some of my Fusion360 projects. Rotating beacon used as a reference model for the restoration of my Porsche. LED Matrix display with fully worked out PCB. Replica of a 1990's speed detection system. 3D printable replica of a 1980's data terminal used by Belgian police. Recreation of a BMW race car center console made using a 3D scan to ensure proper fitment.
BMW 3-series police center console made using an interior 3D scan and multiple images that are scarcely found on the internet.
Very rough 3D scan of a Porsche 924 to determine the mounting location of the sirens and lights.
My own personal vehicle.
The first Gendarmerie GTI I built, my own personal vehicle.
This 5 series was delivered directly from the BMW factory to the federal criminal police in germany in 2002. After the previous owner sideswiped a guardrail it was bound for the scrapyard, instead I took on the challenge and restored it back into original condition.
2nd Gendarmerie GTI that I built. Took a little over a week to do the whole conversion, which included fully stripping the interior to install a custom made wiring loom.
I built this car for fun after receiving an original BMW police brochure, I recreated all the special interior pieces using CAD and 3D printing.
3rd Gendarmerie GTI that I built. Took me less then a week to do the whole conversion.
Recreated this component for an original 1980s Paris-Dakar Mercedes G-Wagen. Despite having only a few low-resolution images as references, the result was highly satisfactory to the owner.
Working replica of a Belgian police radio embedded into the glovebox of an original ex-Gendarmerie Porsche 911 2.7 MFI.
